Binghamite Spheres from Minnesota
A Chatoyant Chalcedon gemstone, also called American Tigers Eye or Cyunite Binghamite, named after Bill Bingham, who discovered it in 1936. It comes from Cuyuna Iron Range in Crow Wing County, Minnesota. It appears as bands of brown, golds, and reds. It is a variety of quartz with fibers of goethite or hematite usually in colors of red, gold, and black and shows crystal growth in all directions. The stone has areas that are highly chatoyant similar to pietersite or tiger's eye.
Please note: all of our spheres come from natural stones that have been formed over millions of years. Polishing enhances the natural occurring colors. The cut and polish may not remove all inclusions, natural lines or indentations. This is normal and part of the natural material.
